HSBC declares winners of young entrepreneur awards

The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) in Bangladesh Wednesday awarded three groups of young entrepreneurs under the 'Young Entrepreneur Awards (YEA) 2009-10' programme.
The grand finale followed by award distribution ceremony of the award programme was organized at a local hotel.
Asaduzzaman Noor, MP was chief guest in the programme attended by top officials of the bank.
The Gold Award winning team was 'Pro-Char' from Institute of Business Administration, University of Dhaka for their plan on preventing soil leaching with compost made from household waste.
'Green Spark' of Dhaka University Business Faculty won the Silver Award for their project on producing electricity from bryophyllum plant while the Bronze Award was bagged by 'Aura Di Dois' of Dhaka University, Business Faculty for their project on Neem-based mosquito repellent.
Over 357 teams from all over Bangladesh sent submissions. Following the initial judging, 30 teams were chosen for the second round, HSBC office source said.
In the second round, the 30 teams submitted detailed business plans from which seven teams were selected for the Bangladesh finals. Following the presentations, three teams were selected as winners of the Gold, Silver and Bronze awards respectively on the basis of the merit of the business proposal, the depth of their understanding and presentation skills.
Each of the three teams received cash prizes from HSBC. In addition, the three winning teams will take part in a weeklong study tour in Malaysia, where the Gold winner will compete with the winners from other countries the each for a cash prize of Hong Kong Dollar 100,000.
Asaduzzaman Noor, MP in his address applauded all the participants' innovativeness and expected that their ideas would not die in bud.
"Once again, you have proven that how innovative our young generations are. All they need is just encouragement and financial support to shine," he added.
Praising HSBC for their award programme, he expected that their support to these rising young entrepreneurs would not end here.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Bangladesh Sanjay Prakash said HSBC was proud to provide students with access to a regional competition that allowed them to showcase their innovation and creativity.
Mr Mustafizur R Khan, Head of Marketing and Communications of HSBC Bangladesh also spoke on behalf of the jury board.
YEA has been running in Bangladesh for the last four years. Students from Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Bangladesh, Brunei and Hong Kong participate in this regional business case competition.
