HSBC holds environ competition for students

The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) Ltd, Bangladesh has launched a nationwide environmental competition through an interactive session with the high school students at the Chittagong Dastagir High School in Chittagong recently.
Under the programme, the HSBC staff will be visiting different schools in Dhaka, Chittagong, and Sylhet and brief the students on variety of environmental issues.
The issues to be discussed during the programme includes conservation of water, waste management, electricity consumption, carbon dioxide emission reduction, forestation and climate change.
Students of class eight-ten have been invited to send their write-ups to HSBC outlining their views on how they can personally help preserve the environment.
Of them, three winners will he selected and each will receive a cash prize.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, HSBC Bangladesh Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Steve Banner explained HSBC's global commitment to conserving environment and raising awareness of environmental issues.
He hoped that this programme would encourage the future generation to actively think of how they can make a positive impact on the environment.
Resident Editor of Prothom Alo Abul Momen also spoke on the occasion.
