Stalwarts, a team from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) of Dhaka University with their business idea CocoCrete, an eco-friendly, high-strength concrete for making earthquake resistant buildings won the Gold Award of the Bangladesh Finale of HSBC Young Entrepreneur Awards (YEA) 2011. The Entrepreneurs a team from the Faculty of Business Studies of Dhaka University with business idea Greennovationn Technologies Inc. won the Silver Award, offering an environment friendly, geographically sustainable and 46% cost-effective housing material, made from jute- a locally abundant raw material. The Bronze Award went to Niloy, a team from IBA of Dhaka University with their business idea Mini Water Treatment Plant in a packet for rural Bangladesh that effectively and inexpensively removes arsenic, pathogens, and bacteria from water. The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) Limited in Bangladesh Tuesday awarded three winning teams with cash prizes along with a chance to participate in a weeklong entrepreneurial tour in Hong Kong SAR. The gold team from Bangladesh will also compete with other best teams from Brunei, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Shanghai and Thailand for the regional championship. Ahsan Khan Chowdhury, deputy managing director of Pran-RFL Group was present as the chief guest at the event. Mr Ahsan called upon the young entrepreneurs not to keep their project presentations as ideas only. "If you are committed and motivated and believe in what you have planned, do it not only in Bangladesh but outside the country," said one of the country's leading young entrepreneurs who joined the family business 19 years ago. Congratulating the winners, chief executive officer of HSBC in Bangladesh Sanjay Prakash said HSBC is proud to present the platform for these young talents to demonstrate their creativity in an international level. The jury panel included Johnson K S Chang, chief risk officer, Sadik Reza, division head of institutional banking, Saiful Islam, division head of payment and cash management, Riaz A Chowdhury, division head of corporate banking and Iftekhar Hasan, acting head of marketing and communications. The Gold team received a cash prize of Tk 75,000, Silver team Tk 45,000 and Bronze team Tk 35,000. The HSBC is the founding and a principal member of the HSBC Group is one of the world's largest banking and financial services organisations with around 7,500 offices in 87 countries and territories and assets of US$2,455 billion at 31 December 2010.
