HSC, equivalent exams begin Thursday

The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC), Alim and HSC Vocational examinations-2009 will begin Thursday throughout the country.
This year 6, 18,308 examinees from 7,237 educational institutions under the ten education boards, Madrasah and Technical Education Boards will appear at the HSC and its equivalent examinations at 1,919 centres.
The number of candidates has lessened by two thousands this year compared to that of the last year, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said Monday.
The education minister presented details about the preparations taken to hold the examinations peacefully to journalists at a press briefing at his ministry.
He sought cooperation from all concerned to hold the examinations in a congenial atmosphere.
The minister, warning of stern action against adoption of any unfair means in the examination halls, urged the officials concerned for taking necessary measures to hold the examinations in a completely fair environment.
In reply to a query, Nurul Islam Nahid said the authorities concerned were asked to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during the examination hours.
