HSC exams begin tomorrow Arrangements complete for copy-free exams, says Nahid

The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent examinations will begin throughout the country tomorrow (Tuesday) with a total number of 779,441 examinees. Of the total examinees this year, 424,823 are male and 354,618 female. The examinations will be held in 2,074 centres across the country under ten education boards including Madrasah and Technical boards. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid disclosed this at a press conference at the conference room of Education Ministry Sunday. The Education Minister said the government has completed all arrangements to hold the HSC and its equivalent examinations, which begins Tuesday, in fair and peaceful environment. Of the total examinees, some 629,619 will appear under eight general education boards, of which, some 209,117 from Dhaka Board, 79,135 from Rajshahi, 63,039 from Comilla, 87,840 from Jessore, 48,075 from Chittagong, 36,342 from Barishal, 30,965 from Sylhet and 75,106 from Dinajpur Board. Another 76,957 students will sit for Alim examination under the Madrasah Board while 68,961 students under Technical Education Board. Mr Nahid informed the newsmen that 191 students will appear at five foreign centres including 14 students at Tripoli of Libya, 31 at Abu Dhabi of United Arab Emirates (UAE), 29 at Doha of Qatar, 55 at Riyadh and 62 at Jeddah of Saudi Arabia. Mr Nahid also informed that the government has made special arrangements to hold the exam in Tripoli in trouble-torn Libya. "Out of 14 students there, five have already returned to the country. Arrangements have been made for the five returnees to appear in the exams from Dhaka College centre." He said necessary papers including question papers were sent to Tripoli on March 31 and these have already reached there. The Education Minister said additional fifteen minutes would be allocated for visually impaired and physically disabled examinees. Mr Nahid added that he has directed the concerned authority to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the exams. He also said that the results of the exams would be published within 60 days.
