HSC exams on schedule despite blockade: Nahid

Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations, scheduled to start from April 1 (Wednesday), will be held as per the given routine despite nationwide blockade.
Earlier, the ministry of education had changed the schedule of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations due to BNP-Jamaat-called blockade and general strikes.
A preparatory meeting of the ministry took the final decision on Sunday about holding one of the country's largest (in terms of participation) public examinations during such violent political programmes.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid chaired the policy-level meeting held at the Secretariat in the capital. "There will be no change in the schedule, even if the BNP-Jamaat alliance continues blockade and calls general strikes," he said.
However, the minister requested the political parties to refrain from enforcing such vicious programmes during the public examinations, in which more than 1.0 million students will participate.
The minister informed the audience that they completed necessary groundwork including dispatch of the required answer scripts to the examination centres across the country.
Mr Nahid said this time the ministry took a number of initiatives including close monitoring of the functioning of coaching centres to check question leaks.
He said the law enforcement agencies would also monitor social media like Facebook to thwart question leaks online. Besides, during the examination hours, photocopy machines won't be allowed to operate.
