HT Imam passes away

HT Imam, the lifelong bureaucrat-turned-advisor to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, passed away at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka early Thursday at the age of 82, reports UNB.
He had been suffering from kidney-related complications and was admitted to the CMH some two weeks ago. His condition started deteriorating on Tuesday, according to Awami League sources.
He was pronounced dead around 1:15am on Thursday.
His body was taken to Sirajganj's Ullapara upazila by a helicopter at around 9.30am while the first namaz-e-janaza was held at 11:00am at Ullapara Akbar Ali Government College ground, said Biplob Barua, special assistant to the prime minister.
His second namaz-e-janaza was held at Gulshan Azad Mosque in Dhaka after Asr prayers.
At around 1:00pm, his body was brought to the Central Shaheed Minar where leaders of various political, social, and cultural organisations paid tributes to him.
On behalf of President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, their military secretaries paid tributes to HT Imam.
He was laid to rest at Banani Graveyard at around 6:00pm with state honour.
HT Imam served as the cabinet secretary in the Mujibnagar government and also in the post-independence government of Bangladesh.
During his long and distinguished career in the bureaucracy, he also served as secretary in the Ministry of Communications and in the Planning Division.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of HT Imam.
President Abdul Hamid also expressed deep sorrow over the death of HT Imam.
Environment, Forests and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin, Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh and CPB General Secretary Dr MA Samad also expressed profound shock at the demise of HT Imam.
