Huda for using passport as voter ID

Monday, 26 January 2015

Opposing the Election Commission's plan to launch smart ID card, Barrister Nazmul Huda urged the government Sunday to introduce passport as a voter ID card for holding a free and fair election in the country, reports UNB.
He urged the Election Commission (EC) to stop the move to introduce smart card as it will only be wastage of money from the national exchequer.
"Passport should only ID to be recognised as voter," chairman of newly-floated Bangladesh National Alliance (BNA) made the comments while speaking at a discussion organised by Bangladesh Labour Party (BLP) at the Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) terming it a 'new formula' for holding fair elections.
Vote rigging could specifically be detected and stopped through passport use as a voter ID during election, he claimed.
Mr Huda said he will visit door-to-door across the country to carry out a campaign for the introduction of passport as voter ID and will submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister and the Election Commission in this connection.
The BNA chairman was also critical of the BNP chairperson's bearing, as she 'tarnished' the office of the Prime Minister ignoring Sheikh Hasina to meet her at Gulshan office to console her following her younger son's death.
He, however, called upon the two heads of BNP and Awami League to sit for a dialogue immediately to resolve the ongoing political violence as people have been held 'hostage' by the two leaders.
Chaired by BLP chairman Sekandar Ali Moni, the discussion was addressed, among others, by chairman of Bangladesh Liberal Democratic Party (BLDP) Nazim Uddin Al Azad.
