Huge drugs seized

SYLHET, Apr 19 (UNB): Police in separate drives in the city and its suburbs arrested 13 people, including drug peddlers and fugitives accused Saturday and recovered a huge quantity of drugs.
Acting on a tip-off, a special team of Metropolitan Police conducted a raid at South Surma railway station and held two drug peddlers along with 163 small packets of heroin.
The arrested were identified as Kamal Hossain (40), of Daudpur area and Zamshed Ali (45), of Barthkhala area of South Surma.
The law enforcers in another drive arrested Ekhlas Mia (25), son of Abdul Latif of Barni village in Companyganj thana, along with 15 bottles of Phensidyl syrup from Ambarkhana airport road in the city.
Meanwhile, police arrested two people while they were trying to kidnap an alleged prostitute in Baghbari area of the city.
The arrested were identified as Lovlu (30), son of Mustaq Ahmed of city's west Kajalshah area, Zamal Ahmed (28), son of late Tuzammal Ali of Natun Bazaar in Biswanath Upazila.
Police also arrested the alleged prostitute Suma Begum (18), daughter of Ohab Ali of Darchabin village in Khagrachhari district.
In another raid they also arrested Abdul Gani Bashar (28), of Sultanpur village in Balaganj Upazila along with 600 grams of hemp.
Two drug peddlers along with 7 liters of home made liquor were arrested in another drive by the law enforcers at Tuker bazar on the outskirts of the city.
The arrested were identified as Babu Mia (55), of Pirpur village Koyes Ahmed (22), of Nazirergaon in Sadar Upazila.
Police also arrested four fugitives accused from the city's Shaheb bazar area on the same day.
