NILPHAMARI, Jan 15:  Huge mustard production is expected this season in Nilphamari district. Mustard plants blossomed in the farmlands across 60 union parishads of six upazilas of the district. This year's target of mustard cultivation as set by DAE is in 2029 hectare of land to produce 2435 mt of mustard at an average production of 1.26 mt per hectare.
Mustard is being cultivated in the comparatively high lands of the district and its cultivation area is increasing year on year because its cultivation cost is low.
Sources said within a month or so the harvesting of the crop would begin. Sources added more than eight maunds of mustard is possible to be produced in one bigha (30 decimal) of land. At present market price of mustard is Tk 2500 per maund (40kg) and therefore farmer can get more than Tk 20000 in cultivating mustard in one bigha of land.
The cultivation cost of mustard is less than Tk 2000 per bigha. As it is profitable the farmers are inclining toward cultivation of this oil seed with enthusiasm.
