Human Rights Day observed

KHULNA, Dec 12: World Human Rights Day was observed in Khulna, as elsewhere in the country Friday with a renewed call for the establishment of human rights. The day also observed in Bagrhat and Satkhira.
Various groups arranged programmes such as discussions, rallies and human chains in Khulna. About fifty human rights organisations jointly organised a colorful rally which started from Shahid Hadis Park and paraded city's main roads. The rally was inaugurated by the Khulna City Corporation Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque.
A discussion meeting was held at Hadis Park, Advocate Aloka Nanda Das was in the chair and addressed among others by ADC Zahidul Islam, Masud Hossain Rony president of Khulna BAR Association , Principal Zafar Imam and president of Manobadhiker Bastobayon Sangtha Adv. Momonul Islam.
Speakers at the discussion called for reducing the rich-poor gap to establish human rights in the real sense. They also emphasised implementation of rights of women and empowering them to improve the human rights status.
