State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan said Thursday that the government would take stern action against those involved in human trafficking through sea routes, reports UNB.
"An investigation is going on to find out the criminals as the government has taken a strong stance against human trafficking to different countries by marine vessels," he said.
Asaduzzaman was talking to reporters over the killing of five Bangladeshis by human traffickers in a trawler in the Bay of Bengal Wednesday.
"No one will be spared and all those involved in the incident will be brought to justice," he warned.
Asaduzzaman said monitoring by the members of Coast Guard would be strengthened to prevent human trafficking through sea routes.
He said most trafficking victims have been languishing in jails in different countries. "All should come forward to create awareness among people against human traffickers," the state minister said.
At least five Bangladeshi nationals were killed and 40 others injured as human traffickers opened fire on them in the Bay of Bengal Wednesday while they were going to Malaysia illegally in a trawler.
Three foreign traffickers--one Myanmar national and two Thai citizens--were captured from the trawler.
