Human trafficking racket ringleader, cohort held

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two persons including the ringleader of a human trafficking racket.
The arrestees were identified as Mahbub Ul Hasan (50), the ringleader, and his accomplice Mahmud Karim (36).
Commander of RAB-3 Lieutenant Colonel Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed disclosed this to journalists at the crime busting force's media centre in the capital's Karwan Bazar on Friday.
He said the duo took away around Tk30 million from gullible unemployed youths by promising to send them to Europe and Middle Eastern countries with high salary jobs.
Following specific complaints lodged by the victims, a team of RAB-3 arrested the duo from Shantinagar area of the city on Thursday night.
Sixty-five fake certificates of courses for foreign jobs, 521 passports, 300 medical certificates and other materials were also recovered from their possession.
The RAB commander further said the arrestees used to collect passports from gullible unemployed youths of different areas of the country through their appointed brokers with a promise to provide them jobs overseas with lucrative salaries.
Mr Ahmed said process was underway to take legal action against the arrestees.
He added Mahbub has been involved with an organised human trafficking gang since 2000.
The arrestees did not even have licenses either for running a travel or recruiting agency.
