Husband to die for killing wife

CHITTAGONG, Jan 23 (UNB): A court here Thursday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife for dowry in 2001.
The court was fined the convict, Abdul Mannan, son of Amir Hossain of Natun Charpara village of Chandnaish Upazila, Tk 0.1 million.
According to prosecution, Mannan strangled his pregnant wife Nargis to death for dowry on April 19, 2001. Victim's father filed a case with Chandnaish thana the following day.
Later, police arrested Mannan. He has been absconding since Aug 17, 2013 after securing bail.
Police submitted the charge-sheet in July 25, 2001. On January 31, 2002, the court framed charges against the accused.
After examining the records and 19 witnesses, Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal judge Md Rezaul Karim handed down the verdict.
