Hussey ton propels Australia

Saturday, 29 August 2009

David Hussey provided the heat on a cold and windy day in Scotland as his first ODI hundred drove Australia to an intimidating 345 in Edinburgh. Hussey launched five sixes in a brutal 111 and was supported by half-centuries to Shane Watson and Adam Voges as the tourists posted their 12th largest total, reports Cricinfo.
Hussey, who has been left out of the 50-over squads for this trip and the Champions Trophy, is currently seen as a Twenty20 specialist and is appearing in this game while his brother Michael rests. He showed Australia what they were missing with a powerful display against modest and overawed opposition. Gordon Goudie finished off the innings to take 5 for 73 from 10 overs - only the second five-wicket haul by a Scotland player - to give the strong crowd someone local to cheer.
After Australia were in minor discomfort at 143 for 4, Hussey exploded against the offspinner Majid Haq with four sixes in three overs, hitting straight down the ground with assistance from the stiff breeze.
