PABNA, Dec 12 (UNB): Jamaat Ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami Friday said he was put behind the bars twice for refusing to be a state witness against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in Gatco graft case.
"I had to land in jail twice, as I refused to be a state witness against Khaleda Zia in the Gatco case," Nizami told an election rally at Bangram Government Primary School ground in Sathia Upazila in the afternoon.
Nizami alleged that he was proposed by lawyers of the Anti- corruption Commission (ACC) that if he becomes a state witness to the case his name would be dropped from it.
He further alleged that this caretaker government had taken various initiatives to split the four-party alliance, but failed.
About the surging prices of essentials, the Jamaat Ameer said people are now passing through a very hard time, as the government failed to rein in the spiraling prices.
He urged people to cast their votes for alliance candidates to keep up the pace of development it had initiated during its regime and restore peace in the country.
