President Iajuddin Ahmed, who completed his five-year constitutional tenure Wednesday, has called upon all to play their due role in making the country's independence meaningful, reports UNB.
"Democracy plays an important role in building a prosperous country and a lawful society. Democratic institutions should be strengthened alongside maintaining transparency and accountability in all spheres of national life for creating a meaningful democratic atmosphere," he said in a message marking the ending of his tenure.
Iajuddin, who took over as the country's 18th President on September 06, 2002, will stay in office until his successor is elected.
Expressing his gratitude to Almighty Allah on the occasion, Iajuddin expressed the hope that the stalled national election would be held next year as per the Election Commission roadmap.
