IATA calls for abandoning taxes

Sunday, 20 July 2008

FARNBOROUGH (Britain), July 19 (PTI): The International Air Transport Association (IATA), an industry group representing 230 airlines, has called on governments to abandon punitive environment taxes and instead support global environment solutions that will actually reduce aviation's two per cent of global carbon emissions.

"Taxes don't reduce emissions. Only better operations and technology can do that," said I.A.T.A.'s Director General and Chief Executive Officer Giovanni Bisignani while addressing the Farnborough International 2008 Sustainable Aviation Briefing.
