Speakers at a reception urged the students to prepare themselves as the future leaders and work for overall welfare of the country.
The reception, accorded to meritorious students, was organised by Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd. (IBBL) at a city hotel Tuesday. MBA students securing top positions in different universities and HSC students of 2010 scoring A+ in all subjects were honoured.
Former IBBL chairman Commodore M Ataur Rahman (Rtd.) was present at the function as chief guest while chairman of IBBL Prof. Abu Nasser Mohammad Abduz Zaher presided.
Md. Abdul Mannan, Managing Director of IBBL, welcomed all to the programme and said, "This is an effort to integrate IBBL's social goal with the dreams of new generations". Introducing his bank to students, he said, "IBBL currently holds deposit of BDT 300 billion and we never invested a single taka in tobacco industry as it is harmful for human health".
Chairman of IBBL Prof. Zaher reiterated his bank's commitment towards society and responsibilities on the bank's part. "IBBL is pioneering the practice of recognising the success of students as part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)", he said.
This year IBBL is awarding 1350 HSC passed students along with top three performers of MBA in different universities including Dhaka University and Chittagong University. The bank also planned to provide scholarship to 400 physically and financially challenged students passing SSC and HSC in 2010.
"IBBL will provide full support for two years to SSC passed students and 4 year to HSC passed students", Managing Director of IBBL said to FE, pointing to the bank's commitment in promoting higher education. "We have disbursed Tk 150 million in educational support till today", he added.
Poet Asad Chowdhury expressed the hope that other banks will join in the competition in serving the society and perform their roles. Editor of Daily Dinkal Dr. Rezwan Siddiqi inspired the students to strive their best by citing ups and downs of his life.
Among others, Editor of Daily Naya Diganta Mahiuddin Alamgir, Editor of Amadershomoy Nayeemul Islam Khan, Editor of Daily Khabarpatra Gias Kamal Chowdhury, Professor Mujahidul Islam from Dhaka University banking department, Principal of Notre Dame College Father Benjamin De Costa spoke on the occasion.
