IBM pledges to nurture local software talents

IT hardware and software giant IBM said it will focus on building technology skills in Bangladesh partnering with colleges and universities. Pradeep Nair, an IBM executive, said the company also aims to nurture the software developer community by imparting training on IBM software for career advancement and building the IT force of the future in Bangladesh. The pledge came Tuesday at an event where the company announced its new business plan for enterprise business software, software solutions and market strategy for 'Smarter Bangladesh.' Yeafesh Osman, state minister for Science and Information and Communication Technology, graced the occasion as the chief guest where Shahzaman Mozumdar, CEO of Thakral Information systems, Bangladesh, was also present. "IBM's vision is to bring a new level of intelligence to how the world works, how every person, business, organisation, government, natural system, and man-made system interacts", said Mr. Nair, director, Software group, IBM India in his opening address at the event. The event brought together all information on IBM Software's capabilities and expertise across key industries like banking, insurance, telecommunications, government and others. The event also witnessed the launch of IBM's smarter software portfolio which is completely integrated with its hardware and services offerings, giving customers flexibility and efficiency in business processes, empowering better decision making and enabling to work smart. Officials said it will continue to do business in Bangladesh in partnership with Thakral Information Systems, IBM's long timeness partner in Bangladesh since 1998. Regional general manager of IBM Soft Gaurav Agrawal and director, Channel Partners IBM Martin Chee also spoke in the conference.
