ICAB honours cos for outstanding accounts, reports

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) Wednesday honoured financial and non-financial institutions and non-government organisations for their outstanding accounts and reports in 2008.
ICAB awarded the institutions at a ceremony titled '9th ICAB National Awards for Best Published Accounts and Reports 2008' at a hotel in the capital.
Prime Bank, Dutch-Bangla Bank and Eastern Bank came out as top three winners in the financial sector banking category.
Twelve banks were also awarded with Certificate of Merit in the same category.
Prime Finance & Investment Ltd bagged the top spot in financial sector non-banking category. LankaBangla Finance came second, followed by Green Delta Insurance.
Phoenix Insurance and International Leasing Company Ltd won Certificate of Merit in the same category.
In the non-financial sector manufacturing category, Singer Bangladesh bagged the top spot, with GlaxoSmithKline Bangladesh and Berger Paints Bangladesh becoming second and third respectively.
Ten companies were awarded Certificate of Merit in the same category.
Bangladesh Online Ltd was awarded Certificate of Merit in the communication and information technology sub-category under the same category.
In NGOs/microfinance institutions category, BRAC came first while next two spots were bagged by BURO Bangladesh and SAJIDA Foundation.
UDDIPAN, a national voluntary development organisation, won Certificate of Merit.
Agrani Bank, Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) and Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB) came out as winners in the public sector entities category.
Commerce Minister Faruk Khan, who attended the event as the chief guest, handed out awards among the winners.
Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Md Ziaul Haque Khondker, South Asian Federation for Accountants (SAFA) President Sheikh A Hafiz, ICAB President Nasir Uddin Ahmed and its review committee Chairman Anwaruddin Chowdhury and secretary N I Chowdhury were also present, among others.
The awards aim to encourage corporate accountability and good governance through transparent reporting and adequate disclosures, through application of accounting or financial reporting and auditing standards, thereby meeting stakeholders' expectations and high level of professional ethics.
