The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) on Saturday observed International Accounting Day 2018 in a festive mood.
On the occasion, a rally was brought out from Hatirjheel that ended at CA Bhaban at Karwan Bazar in the city.
ICAB Vice President Mahmudul Hasan Khusru FCA, Council Member Mostafa Kamal FCA, Chairman of Dhaka Regional Committee-ICAB Md Ali Akther Rezvi FCA and ICAB Secretary Maj Gen Imrul Quayes (retd) led the rally.
Students from different chartered accountant (CA) firms as well as public and private universities took part in the rally.
The ICAB is one of the first founding members of the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA), a forum of professional accounting bodies of the SAARC countries.
SAFA decided to observe the International Accounting Day on November 10 every year. The day bears great significance for the accountancy community in the world.
Italian mathematician and a Franciscan friar Luca Bartolomeo de Pacioli authored a book titled "Summa de Arithmetica Geometria Proportioni et Propotionalita" (everything about arithmetic, geometry and proportion), published in Venice on November 10, 1494.
The accounting day is observed on the day commemorating the publication of the book.
The book aimed to summarise the mathematical knowledge of that time. It is considered to be the first printed essay on double entry bookkeeping called "Method of Venice" and was a direct base of some widespread works on mercantile accounting, said a press release issued by ICAB.
