ICC workshop for Bangladeshi bankers in Colombo begins tomorrow

A three-day workshop titled 'International Trade Finance : Rules and tools, operations, legal cases and proven trade finance strategies' begins in Sri Lanka tomorrow (Friday).
International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) - Bangladesh, the world business organisation is jointly organising the event in cooperation with ICC Sri Lanka.
 A total of 106 bankers from 19 banks including Bangladesh Bank, 18 commercial banks and Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) will attend. This is for the second time that ICC Bangladesh is organizing such a workshop outside the country. Some 75 bankers of Sri Lankan banks will be participating at the same workshop together with Bangladeshi bankers.
 Mr. Rishad Bathiudeen, M.P., Minister for Industry & Commerce, Government of Sri Lanka will inaugurate the workshop as the Chief Guest while ICC Bangladesh President Mahbubur Rahman will chair the inaugural session on February 13.  
The main objective of the Workshop is to allow the Bangladeshi bankers to interact with their counterparts in Sri Lanka and also learn more about the latest rules and tools of international trade finance, understand international trade finance scenario based on real life cases and guide them to undertake secure and successful international trade and finance as well as to avoid risks in cross-border transactions. The workshop will also help the bankers in understanding the new provisions and how the changes impact users with the confidence and legal certainty to trade in unfamiliar markets and save both time and money as well as how to achieve maximum practical benefit in everyday Documentary Credit Operations and Risk Management.
P. Samarasiri, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka; Md. Ahsan Ullah, Executive Director, Bangladesh Bank; Helal Ahmed Chowdhury, former Managing Director & CEO, Pubali Bank Limited and Vincent O'Brien will be conducting the workshop.
Mr. Vincent O'Brien is a highly experienced practitioner of International Trade Finance a long-standing member of the ICC Banking Commission from Ireland.
ICC Bangladesh President Mr. Mahbubur Rahman is leading the team along with ICCB Executive Board Members & Chairman, Newage Group A.S.M. Quasem and AmCham President Aftab ul Islam. ICCB Secretary General Ataur Rahman, General Manager Ajay B. Saha and Asstt. Manager Shakayet Hossain are also included in the ICCB delegation.
The ICCB team will leave for Colombo today (Thursday) and is expected to return Dhaka on February 16.
