FE Report
International Chamber of Commerce-Bangladesh (ICCB) will hold an international conference in the capital today (Tuesday) on 'energy for growth' in a bid to attract foreign investment and exchange information with overseas counterparts.
The initiative came in the backdrop of power shortage of around 2,000 megawatt as the generation is around 3,800mw against the current demand of 5,500 to 6,000 megawatt.
The organisers said the energy shortfall is causing serious hindrance to the overall investment scenario in the country despite having tremendous potentials.
The international seminar would help create a platform where foreign investors and financiers can see for themselves the potentials of the country. The day-long conference would provide maximum opportunity to the participants to present their perspective and exchange views and experiences, they said.
Over 450 delegates from foreign and local companies, private and public entities, banks, business leaders and government officials are expected to join the programme.
Soren Pind, minister for Development Cooperation of Denmark, Dr Victor K Fung, ICC Global Chairman, representatives from Japan Bank for International Cooperation, Marubeni Power Systems Corporation, CESC of India, CMC of China, Santos of Australia, Credit Suisse of Switzerland, Citibank NA and Deutsche Bank of Germany are expected to attend the programme. Chevron, Cairn and Bangladeshi energy companies will take part in the programme.
