ICMAB holds training on IFRS

In order to strengthening the accounting and auditing standards and practices in Bangladesh, the institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) held a training on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), says a press release.
The first of this kind in the country, the 2-day training was held at ICMAB Ruhul Quddus Auditorium in the city on November 10 and 11 as a part of the institute's Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Programme.
Comptroller and Auditor General of Bangladesh Ahmed Ataul Hakeem inaugurated the CPD programme as chief guest while Joint Secretary of Ministry of Commerce Md Showkat Ali Waresy was present as special guest.
Waresy is the project director of 'Strengthening Accounting and Auditing Standards and Practices in the Corporate Sector (Commerce Ministry Part)'. ICMAB Acting President ABM Shamsuddin presided over the inauguration function.
Former president of the institute and Vice-Chairman of Seminar and Conference Committee of ICMAB AKM Delwer Hussain gave welcome address.
ICMAB Secretary Abu Sayed Md Shaykhul Islam highlighted the role of IFRS for boosting both local and foreign private investments and protecting the interest of general investors.
Treasurer Md Jasim Uddin Akond proposed vote of thanks.
The first training programme includes three technical sessions. The papers presented in the sessions were (i) Technical Session-I-- Recognition, Valuation and Disclosure of Non-Current Assets by Muhammad Maniruzzaman (ii) Technical Session-II- Accounting for Income Tax by Ranjan Kumar Bhowmik and (iii) Technical Session-III - Revenue Recognition by Mohammad Nesar Uddin.
The first technical session was chaired by Dr. Chowdhury Saleh Ahmed, Director General, Monitoring Cell (Finance Division). Mahbub Ahmed, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Finance and Additional Secretary and Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) Chairman Md Mokhlesur Rahman were the session chairmen of the other two technical sessions.
