ICSB delegation meets Finance Minister

The President of Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) Mohammad Asad Ullah FCS along with some of his Council Members met with Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith Thursday at his chamber in the Bangladesh Secretariat. The ICSB President introduced his Council Members to Finance Minister and highlighted on various activities pursued by ICSB since its establishment. He also discussed various issues of interest related to the Institute and sought the Minister’s co-operation and assistance in addressing those issues. He thanked the incumbent government for enacting Chartered Secretaries Act 2010 that gave a legal footing to the Institute and reflected on various future plans that will create more employment and develop skill of Chartered Secretary Profession. The President also invited him to be the Chief Guest on the occasion of the ICSB National Award for Corporate Governance Excellence-2014 which will be held in the last quarter of this year. The Finance Minister gladly accepted the invitation and consented to attend the programme. ICSB has introduced Corporate Governance Excellence (CGE) Award from last year and shall continue this every year as a recognition to the listed companies who have successfully established Corporate Governance structure in their respective companies, the President added. He also gave a brief background of ICSB stressing the need for ensuring Corporate Governance and compliance of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission’s(BSEC) directives in all the listed companies. Professional Degree offered by ICSB is creating ample job opportunities for Company Secretaries in listed companies, he added.
The Finance Minister gave a patient hearing and appreciated the activities of ICSB and role of Company Secretaries in a listed Company and hoped that the Company Secretaries with the Professional Degree of ICSB willplay a pivotal role in fair functioning of Capital Market as well as ensuring corporate governance, and compliance issues of securities laws in the listed companies. Senior Vice President of the Institute M. Naseemul Hye FCS, Past President Itrat Husain FCS, Council Member Md. Selim Reza FCS, Md. Shahid Farooqui FCS, Mohammad Nurul Alam FCS and Secretary of the Institute Mustafa Mohiuddin and other Council Members were present during the meeting, said a statement.
