ICSB for its representation in BSEC's advisory body

The Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) has demanded its representation in BSEC's Advisory Committee and to approve the 5th Secretarial Standard of ICSB on organizing board and other meeting through electronic modes.
"We have raised the issue considering the welfare of the capital market," said a member of ICSB.
The issue was discussed on Wednesday when a delegation of ICSB led by its President Mr. Muzaffar Ahmed FCS called on Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam, Chairman, Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) at BSEC office at Sher-E-Bangla Nagar.
On behalf of the Council, the ICSB president congratulated him on assuming the office of the Chairman of BSEC.
The ICSB president introduced the visiting delegation to the BSEC chairman.
President of the Institute briefed the BSEC chief on recent activities of ICSB.
Mr. Islam gave a patient hearing to the delegation and appreciated the role of ICSB in promoting professionalism and development of the company secretaries profession in the country. He hoped that through these activities good corporate governance will be established.
Mr. Md. Selim Reza FCS, Vice President, Mr. Salim Ahmed FCS, Treasurer, Mr. Md. Sharif Hasan FCS, Council Member, Mr. Md. Shafiqul Alam ACS, Council Member, Mr. Khondoker Kamaluzzaman, Commissioner of BSEC and Council Member of ICSB, Mr. Mohammad DelowarHossain ACS, Deputy Director of BSEC and Mr. Md. Shamibur Rahman ACS, Secretary-in-Charge of ICSB were also present at the meeting.
Earlier, another delegation from the Institute of Internal Auditors Bangladesh (IIAB) met the BSEC chairman on Tuesday.
The delegation members discussed how internal audit professionals can extend support to strengthen compliance of Corporate Governance Code issued by BSEC and Code of Conduct by the listed companies and brokerage houses.
The IIAB put emphasis on the awareness on the Corporate Governance Code, Independence of the Auditors, development of the skills of Internal Auditors, recognition of the Auditors by the Board of the companies, monitoring mandatory compliance of the Corporate Governance Code and the Code of Ethics.
The Chairman of BSEC appreciated and expressed the importance of the issues especially the Code of Ethics. He added IIAB can collaborate with Bangladesh Institute of Capital Market (BICM) and provide internal auditors professional training to Auditors and Code of Ethics training to all stakeholders of listed companies and brokerage houses. He also advised BSEC internal auditors to obtain support from IIAB and organize training on internal audit and code of ethics for BSEC relevant employees internally.
Mr. Mohammed Iqbal Hossain, President of IIA Bangladesh, Mr. M Nurul Alam, Secretary General of IIA Bangladesh, Mr. Amitava Saha, Treasurer of IIA Bangladesh and Mr. Md. Zaker Rahmatullah, Deputy Secretary of IIA Bangladesh were present in the meeting.
