ICT-2 issues warrant against Zafrullah

Thursday, 18 June 2015

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 on Thursday issued warrant to arrest Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, founder of Gonoswasthya Kendra, as the two-time contemnor failed to comply with the order of the court.
The ICT-2 on June 10 sentenced Dr Chowdhury to one hour simple imprisonment and fined him Taka five thousand and one month of imprisonment in default for committing contempt of court.
He was ordered to deposit the fine within a week of that order, which means by June 17. But Chowdhury did not comply with that order.
Earlier, on January 14, the ICT-2 issued contempt notice against 49 persons who had expressed concern through a statement published on daily Prothom Alo after British journalist and blogger David Bergman's punishment by the tribunal, asking them to explain their statement and conduct.
Based on their explanations, the tribunal on three different dates exonerated 26 from the allegation of committing contempt of court. And through its order on June 10, the tribunal exonerated 22 more from the charge, BSS report said.
