The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 exonerated Monday 15 prominent citizens from the allegation of committing contempt of court, reports BSS.
The 15 noted citizens Dr Shahdeen Malik, M Hafizuddin Khan, Tahmima Anam, Rasheda K Chowdhury, Imtiaz Ahmed, Badiul Alam Majumder, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Dr Amena Mohsin, Shaheen Akter, Dr Asif Nazrul, Dr Naila Zaman Khan, Zakir Hossain, Arup Rahee, Shahnaz Huda and Ilira Dewan were cleared from the allegation as they sought unconditional apology from the tribunal.
The tribunal, however, set March 3 to take decision about the rest 34 persons, who were asked to explain their statement that they had given along with the aforesaid 15 after British journalist and blogger David Bergman was punished by the tribunal.
The tribunal on January 14 asked these 49, who had expressed concern through a statement published on daily Prothom Alo after Bergman's punishment, to explain their statement and conduct.
Prothom Alo carried out a report under the heading 'Concern of 50 eminent citizens over Bergman punishment' on December 20.
Later, rights activists Khushi Kabir, whose name was also there, withdrew her statement.
