ICT investigation team visits RU

RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY, Mar 13: The investigation team of International War Crime Tribunal (ICT) visited at the Rajshahi University (RU) Saturday. In the team, there were ICT investigation officer and additional police superintendent of Rajshahi Motiur Rahman and inspector Shyamol Chowdhury. During the investigation, the team visitsed RU Shahid Shamsuzzoha hall, University mass graveyard, central Shaheed Smriti Sangrohoshala and the Shaheed Minar area. Sources said that the team entered the university in the morning and met RU Pro-VC Prof. M Nurrullah at his office and then went to the spots for investigation. Shirdarth Shankar Shaha, former convener of Gathok Dalal Nirmul Committee (GADANIC) handed over a document to the investigation team against 21 teachers, officers and employees of the varsity who were involved with war crime during the liberation war in 1971, sources also said. The team told the reporter that they had collected primary evidences and talked with the locals, eyewitnesses of the incident and several sufferers in liberation war. Among others, GADANIC, Rajshahi city unit Vice-President Dr. Sujit Kumar Sarker, RU unit President Saddam Hossain and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mothihar Police station Abul Khair were present with investigation team. VC pledges to improve RU education standard Another message adds: Prof. Abdus Sobhan, Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Rajshahi University (RU), yesterday said that he would take all steps to improve the standard of education bringing back a congenial atmosphere on the campus. "It's impossible to run the university peacefully alone. Cooperation from all the teachers, officers, employees and students are a must for smooth running of the university," he said while addressing as chief guest at the prize giving ceremony of annual cultural and sports competition 2011 at the Sayeed Amir Ali hall of the university Saturday evening. RU Pro-VC Prof. M Nurrullha, treasurer Prof. Abdur Rahman and Agriculture faculty dean Prof. Sohrab Ali also attended the occasion while Hall provost Dr. Mizanur Rahman Khan was in the chair. Attack on student protested Another report adds: The teachers and students of the Rajshahi University (RU) today condemned the attack on Shuvomoy Hoque, a student of Masters of Social Work Department and also a cultural worker who was beaten by a local trader and his associates on March 6. They also demanded arrest and punishment of the culprits immediately. Sources said that they raised voice from a human chain under the banner of RU Central Cultural Alliance (CCA), a non-political union of cultural organisations of the university from 11.00 am to 12.00 pm in front of the university central library Saturday. Leaders and activists of CCA also alleged that RU Chhatra League activists were involved when local trader Mustafa and his associates beat Shuvomoy at his dormitory on March 6.
