Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance Project, implementation of which is now on track, would create 30,000 direct jobs in the country's information technology (IT) and Information Technology Enabled Service (ITES) sectors, reports BSS.
The government of Bangladesh with the financial support of World Bank (WB) is implementing the project, which has also potential to create up to another 30,000 jobs.
The revenue of IT and ITES industry is expected to be increased by over US$200 million by the end of the initiative.
The project has been launched to enhance the growth of Bangladesh's IT/ITES industry for employment generation and export diversification. It also aims to establish basic e-Government foundations to support public sector modernisation.
The WB is providing $63.52 million for the project, scheduled to be closed on December 2017.
A recent WB and the government team jointly reviewed the progress and noted that key activities of the project are already contracted, in the process of contract finalisation or initial phase of implementation.
The WB also urged to make BCC's Project Coordination Unit (PCU) effective.
