The investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Thursday handed the report of investigation into the alleged crimes committed by Jamaat-e-Islami as an organisation during the War of Liberation, over to the prosecution, reports BSS.
Investigation Officer (IO) Md Matiur Rahman handed over the documents to the chief prosecutor Ghulam Arief Tipoo at 1.25 pm at latter's office.
"A prosecution committee headed by Dr Tureen Afroz will now go through these 9,557-page documents including the 373-page probe report and form the charges," said the chief prosecutor.
The chief prosecutor added that the investigation agency in their report named 70 people as the probable witness for the prosecution in this trial.
"After the Nuremberg trial, it is the second instance in the world where an organisation is being brought before the justice for its alleged crimes. Alongside Jamaat, 6 of its associates including its mouthpiece daily Sangram, were also accused of committing crimes against humanity, philosophically, if not directly," Dr Tureen said.
The probe agency completed the report on March 25 after more than 7-month of investigation. In the report Jamaat was accused of committing 7 types of crimes including crimes against humanity, genocide, violating Geneva Conventions, among others.
In the report the investigation agency recommended banning the 6 associates of Jamaat, including daily Sangram and confiscate their assets.
