SIX KILLED IN KUSHTIA

ICT verdict in case against AL leader Hanif, three others any day

Thursday, 11 June 2026

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 is set to deliver its verdict any day in a case filed against four persons, including Awami League Joint General Secretary Md Mahbubul Alam Hanif, over the killings of six people in Kushtia during the July-August Mass Uprising in 2024, report agencies.
On Wednesday, the tribunal kept the judgment pending, noting it as 'CAV' (curia advisory vult), meaning the court has reserved its decision after hearing final arguments from both sides.
Earlier, the prosecution concluded their legal arguments in the case on June 7, pleading for maximum punishment for the four accused. The defence later placed their arguments until yesterday.
A total of 19 prosecution witnesses, including the investigation officer testified in the case on different hearing dates.
The tribunal on November 2, 2025, indicted the accused, framing three specific charges against Hanif, Kushtia district Awami League president Sadar Uddin Khan, general secretary Azgar Ali and Kushtia city Awami League general secretary Ataur Rahman Khan Ata.
All four accused remain at large and are being tried in absentia.
The ICT-2 on October 6 took cognizance of the formal charge filed and issued arrest warrant against them the same day.
