Idle BRTC Volvo buses!

A report along with the photographs of the forgotten idle Volvo buses was published recently in a local English daily. It seemed to be nobody's business; possibly least of all BRTC's. Given this scenario; one can quip that BRTC stands for 'Buses Run Till Condemnation'! Routine servicing and maintenance is a must for motor vehicles. In this case, the saying: 'A stitch in time saves nine,' is also appropriate. Here, we have new buses bought in 2001, now rotting for disposal as scrap! One wonders the mileage covered by these buses and more importantly the record of servicing and repairs done to these buses. Since this is a public organization, these records should be available for verification. May be repairs were only officially carried out, but possibly the funds for the same were quietly diverted for personal benefit between the repairer and BRTC people. Who knows? As usual, the current Director (Technical) can safely pass the buck on to the predecessors. Another reason could be the repair and spares were ordered on three quotation basis ignoring the services and genuine spares that could have been provided by the Volvo distributor in Bangladesh.
