FE Report
IFC Advisory Services for South Asia - The South Asia Enterprise Development Facility (SEDF) and BRAC jointly published two books recently on broiler farm management to facilitate small poultry farmers' access to proper farming management and bio-security measures.
The publications aimed at improving productivity, reducing costs and increasing income in this sector.
The books - 'Broiler Murgi Palon Babosthapona Shohayika' and 'Broiler Farm Management Register Book' contain valuable information on 'how to effectively raise broilers from day-old-chicks to a marketable stage.
The books contain clear photographic images and simple Bangla description, making the information accessible to our farmers.
Both publications contain eight farm record forms, which would allow farmers to keep track of vital information such as mortality, feed ratios, vaccinations, profit and loss, etc.
For farmers who have never had any formal education on how to manage poultry, such measures can have significant impacts on their farming behaviour and subsequent productivity.
The contents were developed with substantial inputs from the poultry farmers based on their demand.
The books will be sold to 10,000 farmers and entrepreneurs through BRAC's distribution channel at a price of Tk 30. BRAC is working with 0.5 million poultry farmers now.
The poultry industry is the fastest-growing livestock sector in Bangladesh with about 6 million people dependent on it for sustenance.
Lack of technical knowledge is a major constraint for development of this industry and that must be addressed.
