Former Governor of Bangladesh Bank and President of the Board of Trustee of East West University Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin said the country needs a large number of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) for creating required jobs for unemployed people. "We need hundreds of SMEs outside Dhaka. Through these Micro SMEs (MSMEs) in agriculture sector, huge employment generation is possible," he said Sunday while addressing the Foundation Course for 12th Batch Probationary Officers of IFIC Bank Limited. Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Bank Mr. Lutfar Rahman and Managing Director Mr. Mohammad Abdullah were also present at the programme. Top executives and 61 newly-recruited probationary officers of the bank attended the event that took place at the bank's Academy at Motijheel. Terming the remittance as the best source of fund, the noted economist suggested the earnings of the diaspora community should be utilized for socio-economic development of the country. "It is better to raise money from diaspora community for projects like the Padma bridge and it should be named as Probashi Padma Shetu," he said. Dr. Farashuddin laid emphasis on creating need-based human resources that will help increase the earnings from remittance. "We need to create vocational as well as professional human resources to cope with the future demand," he observed.
