SIRAJGONJ, Sept 16: Prices of Iftar items have registered a sharp rise in the local markets at the last stage of holy month of Ramadan.
The sudden price hike puts low income fasting Muslims in difficulties. Most of the Iftar items went beyond the purchasing capacity of them.
While visiting different markets, this correspondent found that Muri was being sold between Tk 50 to Tk 60 per kilogramme (kg). Other traditional Iftar items like piaji, bora and khurma were being sold between Tk 10 and 11, Tk 10 and Tk 12 and Tk 10 and Tk 12 respectively per 100 grams.
When asked the traders claimed that the prices of Iftar items have increased as the prices of gas cylinder have gone up in the recent time.
At present, a gas cylinder is being sold at Tk 950, which was Tk 800 some days back, they alleged.
