KAMPALA, Nov 22 (UNB): Foreign Advisor Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury held bilateral talks with Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting here.
During the meeting, they agreed that bilateral relations were on a firm foundation and stressed the need for further activating various existing mechanisms to deal with the issues between the two countries.
Chowdhury thanked Mukherjee for his telephone call following cyclone Sidr hit the country and for the messages of sympathy from the Indian leaders.
The Indian minister offered support and assistance based on the needs for both relief and post-cyclone rehabilitation.
Mukherjee responded positively to Iftekhar's invitation to visit Bangladesh and said he was indeed "eager to do so at an early and mutually convenient date".
