IG Prison visits Khulna jail

KHULNA, May 11: The jails of the country will be turned into reformatories and that training, rehabilitation and welfare fund to be formed for the prisoners are under process. Besides, a meditation programme is also being implemented for the prisoners to change their mental make-up, said the Inspector General of Prison Brigadier General (Retd) Ashraful Islam Khan while he was exchanging views with the press before visiting the Khulna Jail Tuesday. DIG prison Fazlur Rahman, Khulna Jail Super M Shah Alam, Jailor Rafiqul Islam, representatives from Civil Surgeon and Public Works Department and other concerned officials were present during the visit. IG Prison said that the construction of garments factories has been started in central jails of the country for training and employment opportunity for the prisoners. The prisoners will be made skilled workers through training and side by side they will be financially benefited and rehabilitated. He said at present about 70 thousand detainees are at different jails of the country and about 1500 detainees have been released during the last one and half year. IG Prison also said, an ambulance will be given to each 68 jails of the country. Meanwhile, 15 ambulances have been provided to the jails and fax and photocopier machines have also been given in each jails. Later he visited the jail and met with the prisoners and expressed satisfaction over management of the jail. Current net recovered Another message adds: A mobile court recovered huge current nets worth over Tk.7 lakh from Mongla area in a special drive of Jhatka protection. Source said that a mobile court led by Mongla Upozila Nirbahil Officer Dr. Mizanur Rahman conducted a drive at river Poshur and recovered huge quantity of current nets. Later the recovered current nets were destroyed by fire in presence of Upazila Fisheries officer, Police officer and other concerned officials of the Upazila.
