CHATTOGRAM, Jan 24: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam has directed all police personnel to wear body cameras while on duty to uphold transparency, accountability, and impartiality during the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) elections.
Addressing a pre-election briefing at the Civic Centre of Chattogram District Police Lines on Saturday, IGP Baharul Alam said, "All personnel must use body-worn cameras while performing their duties, a measure that will play a crucial role in enhancing transparency and accountability."
He emphasised that technology-driven policing is key to building public trust, particularly during sensitive periods like elections.
A total of 458 officers and force members from 29 units across Chattogram, including senior officials from the Chattogram Metropolitan Police and the Chattogram Range, attended the briefing.
Superintendent of Police of Chattogram Mohammad Nazir Ahmed Khan welcomed the attendees and highlighted the importance of professionalism and neutrality, noting that the police must ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election.
During the session, officers discussed operational challenges and field experiences. Several proposals were raised, including providing speedboats for island police stations, facilitating loans for motorbike procurement, introducing or increasing island duty allowances, and improving facilities for officers assigned to election duty.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police Commissioner Additional IGP Hasib Aziz underscored the importance of inter-unit coordination, enhanced urban security, and the use of modern technology to manage election operations effectively.
In his closing remarks, Chattogram Range DIG Additional IGP Ahsan Habib Palash urged all units to follow IGP Alam's directives, maintain discipline, and carry out election responsibilities with patience and impartiality.
