IGP warns his force of action for irregularities

Sunday, 12 August 2007

KISHOREGANJ, Aug 11 (UNB): Reminding his force of the changed situation, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Nur Mohammad today (Saturday) said those days are gone to go unpunished after committing an offence.
"Today people are seeing what they didn't see in the last 36 years. Now time has come for change. We're trying to turn around so that we can do something good for the country," he said.
The IGP was exchanging views with local elite marking the inauguration of a newly constructed building of Itna thana and a barrack.
He regretted that the country's police force had no 'humanitarian face' until recently and they did not enjoy the confidence of the people as they were used for political purposes by those who were in power in the past.
Vowing to try his best to restore people's confidence in the police force, the IGP said, "I'll continue my efforts to earn the force a good name even if I'll have to lose my job."
"The police must enjoy the confidence of the people. They should be their friends," he told the function.
Additional IGP Mahfuzul Haque and DIG (Dhaka range) Nazmul Haque were, among others, present at the function held with district Police Super Mizanur Rahman in the chair.
Public Works Department constructed the Itna thana complex and the barrack at a cost of Tk 8.6 million (86 lakh).
