Ihsanul Karim has been made Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Press Secretary after he served two years in the same position for president. He was managing director and chief editor of state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha. Karim has been appointed to the post for a year on the condition that he gives up ties to all other institutions, according to a circular issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Monday. His contract as press secretary to President Md Abdul Hamid ended on May 25. He is set to replace AKM Shamim Chowdhury. Shamim Chowdhury, former director general of the Department of Film and Publications, was made Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Press Secretary on June 3 last year. He is facing the axe because the prime minister is dissatisfied with him, several media outlets had reported. Chowdhury is now accompanying the prime minister on a private visit to the UK, according to bdnews24.com.
