Wednesday, 5 August 2015

A court in Rangpur has sentenced a couple to life term rigorous imprisonment for possessing and trading in contraband drugs. Rangpur District and Sessions Judge Manjurul Basit delivered the verdict on Tuesday afternoon in a crowded courtroom in presence of convicted husband Md Nuruzzaman though his wife Roksana Begum has been absconding. The court also acquitted two others in the case – Jahir Raihan and Sadiya Akhter Asha – as the charges brought against them were not proved. According to the prosecution, a team from Kotwali police station raided the house of Roksana Begum in Alamnagar on September 2, 2013, and seized 32 gram of heroin. Sub-inspector (SI) Raihanul filed a case with Kotwali police station accusing four persons, including the couple and Jahir Raihan and Sadiya Akhter Asha. After investigation, Investigation Officer (IO) of the case SI Moktarur Rahman submitted charge-sheet before the court against the accused persons. After examining the witnesses and evidences, the court found the couple guilty and delivered the verdict against them acquitting the other two accused, according to a news agency.
