Illegal gas connection as trade
Friday, 21 February 2014
Gas is our valuable national resource and it is limited. If we use it extravagantly, we will face huge gas shortage in the coming days. According to the media, a section of the ruling party leaders are involved in giving illegal gas connections, taking bribe and the surprising thing is that they have been doing it openly.
It has been learnt that the local Awami League leaders of Narayanganj are out to provide illegal gas connections stretching over 100 kilometres, to around 20,000 households. These illegal connections have not only deprived the government of a huge amount of revenue but also helped the illegal gas users. They also pose a threat to the environment and people there. The news will surprise any conscious person because corruption has prevailed to a great extent and the corrupt people no longer try to conceal their corruption; rather they do it openly showing their muscle power and immunity from the law enforcing agencies.
Such display of corruption by the ruling party leaders greatly damages the confidence of the common people in them. I hope the government will take stern actions against those culprits involved in this illegal trade and bring order in this important sector.
