Illegal hoarders to face music, PM tells JS

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Wednesday categorically her government will take actions against those found responsible for price hike of essentials through illegal hoarding, report agencies.
"We must take actions against the illegal hoarders," she said while replying to a supplementary by treasury bench lawmaker Samsul Haque Chowdhury (Ctg-11) during the Prime Minister's Question Answer session in the Jatiya Sangsad.
The Prime Minister said although she is not in favour of taking actions against the businessmen as a whole rather she will request them to earn reasonable profit taking into considerations the sufferings of the common people with the price spirals of essentials.
The Leader of House said that her government has taken various pragmatic measurers to check the price spiral of essentials that included expediting import in private and public levels, strengthening Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), raising stock of essentials, fixing prices of some specific items, monitoring Bazar situation and decreasing bank interest for importing essentials.
The Prime Minister said her government has also taken steps to increase agri- production in the country to meet the growing demand of foods. In this context, she referred to various steps taken by her government in this connection.
Hasina said that she recently held a meeting with businessmen to discuss the price-hike issue.
