The Power Ministry has decided to take more time for the execution of its decision to remove all the overhead illegal internet and satellite TV cables from the capital. The decision was taken at a meeting with the internet service providers and cable operators, held at the ministry on Tuesday afternoon. Earlier, on October 30, the ministry ordered immediate removal of illegal internet and satellite TV connection hanging from electric poles in the capital. The Power Ministry at the meeting on Tuesday also formed a committee headed by its joint secretary Bazlur Rahman to conduct a study across the city and prepare a comprehensive report on the issue. The meeting was held with State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid in the chair. State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak also attended the meeting. In a meeting on Oct 30 with internet service providers and cable operators, Power Ministry took a decision that all overhead illegal Internet and TV cables that still remain hanging from the poles erected by electricity suppliers in the city and the BTCL must be removed within 7 days. It was also decided at the meeting that punitive action, including filing of cases, will be taken against the offenders. As per the decision, some of the power utilities, including DPDC and DESCO, launched a drive to remove the cables. But immediately, they faced troubles as internet service providers and cable operators pursued the government's highest level which ultimately halted the drive, according to UNB.
