Illegal parking disrupts traffic movement

Thursday, 11 October 2018

Roadside parking is a common phenomenon that creates hindrance to smooth traffic movement. I saw the other day that many vehicles were parked illegally near the SB Office beside the Malibagh flyover and it blocked almost half of the road thereby disrupting traffic movement.
I have noticed that it is a common scenario of vehicles being parked on both sides of the road. Thus, they make the roads of Malibagh narrower. Sometimes, I see the traffic police imposing fine on the illegally-parked vehicles, but the scenario doesn't change.
It is not a situation in Malibagh only. Most of the roads are being used as undocumented parking los for vehicles, which apparently is one of the reasons behind unending traffic snarl-up. During traffic weeks the authorities take action for a few days only and after that things go back to where they were. Even in Gulshan, cars are being parked on the footpath that creates a hindrance to pedestrians' fast communication. Not to mention, many footpaths are grabbed by construction companies. I hope the authorities concerned will look into the matter and strictly enforce laws so that traffic situation in Dhaka improves to some extent.
