GAIBANDHA, July 18: Different structures are being built illegally on the government land in the middle of the Gaibandha-Saghata road in Sadar upazila of the district.
Outrage has arisen in public mind due to the illegal construction of structures on the government land.
An allegation was rife that Jyotsna Begum, second wife of former chairman of Badiakhali Union late Firoz Kabir, was occupying the government land adjacent to the CNG stand at old Badiakhali Bazar.
Although the locals tried to stop the construction work, he continued without paying any heed. Residents and passers-by say that this stand is always crowded. If the structure is built in place of that road, it will cause more sufferings for the pedestrians.
Haider Kamruzzaman, executive engineer of the Gaibandha Roads and Highways Department (RHD), said, "I am not aware of the matter. If something like this happens, action will be taken."
Noor Alam, member of Ward No- 5 of Badiakhali Union, said, "I along with the chairman have directly opposed it."
