FE Report
Telekom Malaysia International Bangladesh (TMIB) has recently agreed to compensate Bangladesh Government for the 'lost revenue' attributed to the misuse of some of TMIB subscribers, said a press release.
TMIB, the release said, had already paid Tk. 725 million (72.50 crore) to BTRC out of its total commitment of 1.45 billion.
Before the Caretaker Government, the unauthorised use of VoIP and international call termination was highly prevalent in the country.
The BTRC conducted investigations in this regard on almost all telecom operators.
After a thorough investigation, it was found that some of TMIB's subscribers misused its services and indulged in VoIP business.
TMIB, as a responsible corporate entity, it said, was compliant with the laws of the land and was very much appreciative of the stand and initiative of the BTRC to put into place an effective regulatory regime.
"We respect where we do business. We would be 100 per cent compliant with the laws of Bangladesh", said TMIB's Acting Managing Director Kamshul Kasim.
