Image building organisations

Friday, 31 October 2008

DESPITE the need to improve the image of the country abroad, hardly any initiative is taken in this regard. We have many image building offices which are not able to perform their due roles for many reasons.Rather, these organizations do enough to derogate the country's reputation abroad. State-controlled Biman, postal department, public sector banks etc.,can be named in this regard. In these organisations, corruption records are incomparable. Due to corruption in Biman, it has yet to regain its position after making it company. The Postal Departments are making money worldwide. But the country's one is making loss of millions of taka due to inefficiency of staff. Majority of its staff delay in deliverying goods, parcel or mails, even are found to be involved in missing those.
The present caretaker government has conducted drive against corruption. Bangladesh's rank as the most corrupt country has also dropped. So it is now possible to bring reform in the image-buildingoffices. There is a need to invest more to make these organizations freefrom corruption and profitable.
Not only this, the government should take steps to improve the services of those offices and institutions, particularly the Bangladesh missions, abroad to build a positive image of the country.
